How to Simplify a Patterned Shirt for Brick Art
A patterned shirt can be translated into brick art by preserving its strongest color and shape cues.

A patterned shirt can be translated into brick art by preserving its strongest color and shape cues. Attempting every tiny print can make a small figure busy or imply detail that the actual product cannot provide.
Identify the dominant pattern
From a normal viewing distance, is the shirt mainly striped, checked, floral or a large color block? Note the base color and one or two accent colors before focusing on small motifs.
A navy shirt with broad cream stripes has a different visual identity from a dense multicolor print. Simplification should preserve that distinction rather than turning both into random decoration.
Prioritize what makes the outfit familiar
Choose the detail the recipient is likely to recognize: a broad stripe, a contrasting collar or a favorite color combination. Provide a close outfit reference if that detail is unclear in the face photograph.
Keep optional elements separate. A tiny chest logo may not be practical at the chosen size, and its presence should not be assumed from a generated concept image.
Ask which method is available
Different products can use colored components, printed elements or another documented treatment. Confirm what the quoted item actually includes before requesting a particular effect.
If the pattern cannot be reproduced cleanly, a restrained color arrangement may look more intentional than a blurred approximation. Our brick palette guide explains how a few colors can still create a recognizable character.

Approve the complete outfit
Review shirt, trousers, shoes and hairstyle together. A highly contrasted shirt can draw attention away from the face, while too many similar colors can flatten the silhouette.
Useful feedback describes the hierarchy: “Keep the blue base and broad white stripe; the smaller print can be simplified.” That is clearer than asking for every detail to be more realistic.
Save the agreed simplification with your proof. It gives both sides a shared expectation about which features are essential and which have deliberately been reduced for the scale.
