Realistic and stylized figurines interpret a person differently. The right choice depends on which qualities you want to recognize and the visual examples the maker can actually deliver.

Define what realistic means to you

You might mean natural body proportions, subtle facial features, accurate clothing or a restrained expression. These are separate preferences, and a single word may not communicate them all.

Choose an example from the seller's relevant product line and explain what you like about it. Avoid combining a realistic face, cartoon proportions and brick construction without discussing whether that combination belongs to the offered style.

Understand stylization

A stylized figure may enlarge the head, simplify the face or soften clothing shapes. These choices can make a small character expressive, but they also change how directly it resembles a photograph.

The important question is whether you enjoy that interpretation. More detail is not automatically more meaningful, and a small charming character is not a failed photographic sculpture simply because its proportions are deliberate.

Compare comparable examples

Look at the same approximate figure size, number of people and finish. A large detailed display piece is not fair evidence for what a much smaller standard product will show.

Distinguish physical examples from digital or AI illustrations. Ask about the proof process and the degree of variation to expect rather than relying on a single highly polished image.

Write a consistent brief

State the chosen style, intended expression and essential recognition cues. Keep references for identity separate from examples of artistic treatment.

If your expectations change substantially during review, discuss whether a different product or redesign is needed before approving production. Small revisions cannot always convert one visual language into another.

Our brick versus sculpted comparison is useful if the style decision also involves materials. Choose a direction you would enjoy seeing every day, not the one with the most elaborate marketing description.
