In short: For a custom graduation figure with a laurel wreath, send a clear photo of your face along with images of your outfit and wreath, and specify the details you want included. VoxelPals makes handcrafted polymer clay 3D figures, and you receive photos at every stage. Most orders arrive within 20–25 days after your photos are received.
How do you make the figure look like the graduate?
The laurel wreath identifies the occasion; the face, hair, outfit, and pose identify the person. Before choosing your images, decide which moment you want to remember: your thesis defense, leaving the university, or your graduation party.
Not every graduation needs to be depicted with a cap and gown. If you’re wearing a suit, dress, or another outfit in your photo, specify that as your reference. If you want to recreate your graduation gown instead, show it clearly.
VoxelPals figures are stylized interpretations, not scans. The likeness comes from the combination of features and details, so choose a few consistent references rather than photos showing different hairstyles and outfits without explaining which to use.

What photos do you need for a custom graduation figure?
Start with a well-lit photo that clearly shows your face, either straight on or at a slight three-quarter angle. A phone photo is fine: what matters is that your features are clear, not that the photo was professionally taken. Avoid backlighting, sunglasses, and group shots where the person is too small.
- Face: Choose the main image for facial features and expression.
- Full body: Add a reference for your outfit and posture.
- Wreath: Show how it’s worn and any ribbons you want to request.
- Instructions: Explain which photo to use for each detail.
You can upload up to 10 photos on the product page, with a maximum size of 12 MB each, in JPG, PNG, or WebP format. You can also order first and send them to hello@voxelpals.com: the timeline starts when your photos are received.
How should you describe the laurel wreath and outfit?
Don’t just write “graduation version.” Specify that you want the laurel wreath shown in your photo, not a different type of headwear, and ask for confirmation of the details to be included. Also explain how you want your hair to remain visible beneath the wreath.
A useful note might read: “Use the first photo for my face, the second for my suit, and the third for the laurel wreath. Keep the shirt and hairstyle from my graduation-day photo.” That gives clearer direction than a general description.
Colors associated with academic disciplines are a common tradition, but don’t treat them as a universal rule. If you want a particular ribbon or color included, show a reference and specify it in your notes rather than leaving the choice to an assumed connection with your field of study.
Should you choose a 3D figure or a brick figure?
The 3D graduation figure for one person is hand-sculpted from polymer clay, baked, and painted by hand. For figures of people, you can choose a custom bobblehead or a fixed-head figure. This is the starting point if you prefer soft, rounded shapes.
The graduation brick figure is designed from your photo and built with bricks for a more geometric look. Before choosing, clarify which elements of the wreath and outfit you want included.
The approval process differs by style: for the 3D figure, there is no digital preview; you receive photos at every stage and can request changes. For the brick figure, you approve a digital preview, and building begins only after your approval.
How far ahead of the party should you order?
Most orders arrive 20–25 days after your photos are received. This is not a guaranteed delivery date. If you want to give the gift at the party, allow extra time and share your required date before ordering.
For a 3D figure, the first photos of the sculpted face arrive in 3–4 days. The head is sculpted first, and we send you photos. Once you approve the head, it takes 8–12 days to make the hair and body, finish the figure, and check it. You also receive photos of the finished figure. For brick figures, the digital preview takes 2–3 days, followed by 8–12 days of building after approval.
Standard shipping is free and tracked; express shipping is not available. If you want to use photos from your thesis defense, keep in mind that you may need to give the figure as a gift after the party.
What should you check before approving the figure?
When you receive the images, compare them with your chosen references: face, hair, outfit, colors, and requested wreath details. If something doesn’t match your instructions, point it out precisely and explain which photo to use as the reference.
Check the product page for current pricing. If you want the gift to remain a surprise, you can enter the recipient’s shipping address directly: the approval images are sent to you. After ordering, you can also email a message to be added to a card at no extra charge.
If you’re still deciding what kind of gift to give, find more inspiration in the guide to unique graduation gifts. For your figure, though, the key decision is still this: which image of the person do you want to preserve?
Questions and answers
What should you give as a graduation gift?
If you want to capture someone on their graduation day, you can choose a custom figure based on their photo, with the outfit and wreath details agreed on in advance. It’s a good fit if you’re looking for a keepsake to display rather than an item for everyday use.
How long does a custom figure take?
Most VoxelPals orders arrive within 20–25 days after your photos are received, not simply after payment. If you need it for a particular party, share the date before ordering to check whether the timing is feasible. Express shipping is not available.
What photo do you need for a custom figure?
Choose a clear, well-lit photo showing your face straight on or at a slight three-quarter angle. For a graduation figure, add images of your outfit and laurel wreath, explaining which reference to use for each detail.
