Why a Resin Figurine May Have a Seam Line

A seam line can mark where mold sections met or where separately made parts were joined. It is not necessarily a crack, but its appearance and location matter when judging a finished figurine.

Identify what you are looking at

A fine raised line following a mold division differs from an open gap at an assembled arm. A painted boundary can also look like a seam in a low-resolution photograph.

Use a clear close view with light from more than one direction. Avoid scraping the surface to find out what it is. That can damage the finish and make later assessment harder.

Consider the expected finish

A kit sold for painting may deliberately require seam cleanup. A finished gift has different expectations. Read whether the seller includes assembly, surface preparation and painting, and compare photographs of the delivered product type.

Do not judge an unfinished kit against a polished display photograph without recognizing the difference in scope. Conversely, a polished render does not establish the quality of a finished physical item.

Look for practical consequences

Ask whether the line is cosmetic or whether the joint appears loose, displaced or damaged. A seam behind a figure may be less noticeable in display than one crossing the face, but an unstable connection deserves attention wherever it is.

For an arriving order, photograph the whole object and the affected area before repair. Include the packaging if shipping damage is possible. Our arrival damage guide explains a useful evidence set.

Request clarification without guessing

Send the seller a neutral description: “There is a visible line along this shoulder; is this an assembly joint, and does it need attention?” That is more informative than immediately declaring the resin faulty.

If you are learning production, study how molds work. Understanding why a line appears helps separate normal process traces from a finish that does not match the agreed product.
