How to Measure a Figure's Height and Base

Figure height, total display height and base dimensions can describe different measurements. Clarify which one a listing uses before choosing a size or ordering a case.

A case-fit example

Suppose the confirmed overall figure dimensions are 18 cm high, 13 cm wide and 10 cm deep, including its base and accessories. A case advertised as 18 cm high on the outside cannot be assumed to fit: its interior may be smaller, and the figure still needs clearance for placement and removal.

Record two sets of numbers before buying: the complete figure dimensions and the case's usable internal dimensions. Then check the case's external footprint against the shelf and the space needed to open it. These example dimensions are a measurement exercise, not specifications for a VoxelPals product or a universal clearance allowance.

Identify the measurement endpoints

Ask whether height runs from the feet to the top of the head or from the bottom of the base to the highest point. A hat, raised hand or accessory can extend beyond the head.

For a seated figure, a quoted height may be especially easy to misinterpret. Use the finished overall dimensions when checking whether the object fits a shelf.

Measure width and depth too

The base footprint is not always the same as the maximum object footprint. Hair, instruments or other projecting details can extend beyond its edges.

For groups, ask for the complete width and depth rather than multiplying a single-person estimate. Spacing and pose affect the final arrangement.

Make a simple space test

Draw the proposed footprint on paper and place it in the intended location. Mark the height with a ruler or another safe visual reference to see how it relates to nearby furniture.

Leave practical clearance for handling and cleaning. A piece that fits with almost no room around it may be difficult to place safely or lift by its base.

Match the display case correctly

Compare the figure with the case's usable interior, then compare the case's exterior with the shelf. Check how the cover or door opens and whether that movement has enough space.

Our display-case guide explains these two separate fit checks. Do not use a product photograph's apparent scale as a substitute for measurements; camera angle and styling can be misleading.

Keep the confirmed dimensions with the approved design, especially if you add a prop or scene element later. A useful size description includes height, width, depth and whether those numbers cover the complete finished display.
